Cordyceps militaris is a species of parasitic fungus that grows on insects. It is also known as the “caterpillar fungus” because it typically parasitizes caterpillars of the ghost moth. This fungus has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is valued for its purported health-promoting properties.

Cordyceps militaris is not typically considered that great tasting, but it is edible, as it is generally sold in dried form for use as a medicinal herb. However, there are some reports of people eating cordyceps militaris raw or cooked.

Raw: You can simply eat cordyceps militaris raw. This is the most natural way to consume cordyceps and requires no preparation. Heck you could even throw it on some pizza 🙂

Cooked: Cordyceps militaris can also be cooked. This may make it more palatable for some people. To cook cordyceps militaris, simply simmer it in water for a few minutes or add it to your favorite dish.

Powder: Cordyceps militaris is also available in powder form. This makes it easy to add cordyceps to other foods or beverages. Cordyceps powder can be added to smoothies, soups, or even sprinkled on top of food.

Can You Eat Cordyceps Raw?

Cordyceps militaris is typically sold in dried form, as this preserves its medicinal properties. However, some people do eat cordyceps militaris raw or cooked. There is no concrete evidence that eating cordyceps militaris raw or cooked offers any health benefits. However, there is also no evidence that it is harmful. Therefore, if you choose to eat cordyceps militaris raw or cooked, it is probably safe to do so.
