Are reishi mushrooms hallucinogenic? This is a question that has been asked by many people interested in natural psychedelics. While reishi mushrooms do not contain any known psychedelic compounds, they do have some psychoactive properties that could potentially produce mild psychedelic effects. But overall the answer to are reishi mushrooms hallucinogenic is no.

Are Reishi Mushrooms Hallucinogenic? The Answer:

No, reishi mushroom does not get you high. Reishi mushroom is considered an adaptogen, and while it has many proven health benefits, it will not get you high.

The Confusion Starts Here

Reishi mushrooms are a strange adaptogen, and they tend to confuse people. In English, reishi is dubbed “the immortal mushroom” as it has magic effects that improve immunity, but no “trip” feeling.

The mushrooms origins can be traced as far back as 100 B.C. Followers of Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine have known the adaptogenic qualities of the reishi mushrooms for centuries. Today, you can find reishi at almost every health food store. Unlike penis envy mushrooms, they are absolutely harmless in case of psychoactivity.

Reishi’s Other Health Benefits

Reishi is an adaptogenic substance used to help your body defend against stress and disease. Scientists know reishi mushrooms to have an anti-cancer and immune-boosting effect. According to these studies, molecular functions of this mushroom suppressed the expression of breast cancers in experiments on humans and mice.

As far as your immune system is concerned, reishi contains a substance that boosts T cells and natural killer cells (translation: Reishi boosts the immune function).

Do Reishi Mushrooms Contain Psilocybin?

No, reishi mushrooms do not contain psilocybin. They do contain many other bio-active compounds that promote a health immune system and anti-inflammatory properties. So while reishi mushroom supplements may not get you high, they could help you live longer 🙂

Unlike certain hallucinogenic mushrooms, like blue meanie mushroom, that contain psilocybin or psilocin, Reishi mushrooms do not contain these psychoactive substances at all. Reishi mushrooms primarily contain polysaccharides, triterpenes, and other bioactive compounds that contribute to their potential health-promoting properties.

Not High — Just Healthy

The triterpenes found in Reishi mushrooms, such as ganoderic acids, are believed to have various health benefits, including immune-modulating and anti-inflammatory effects. These compounds interact with the body’s immune system and may help regulate its response, promoting overall well-being, but they’re not hallucinogenic in nature.

It’s crucial to differentiate between Reishi mushrooms and hallucinogenic mushrooms, as they have distinct chemical compositions and effects on the body.

Hallucinogenic mushrooms, such as certain species of Psilocybe, can alter perception, cognition, and consciousness, leading to hallucinations and other psychedelic experiences.

Reishi just improve your health in many ways:

Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Chronic inflammation is a common underlying factor in many diseases. Reishi mushrooms contain compounds that possess anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce inflammation in the body. By incorporating Reishi mushrooms into your diet, you may potentially alleviate symptoms associated with inflammation-related conditions.

Stress Relief and Mood Enhancement

In our fast-paced lives, stress and mood disorders have become prevalent. Reishi have been traditionally used to support mental well-being and promote relaxation. Certain compounds present in Reishi mushrooms may help reduce anxiety and stress levels, contributing to an overall sense of calm and improved mood.

Liver Health

The liver is a vital organ responsible for detoxification and maintaining overall health. Reishi mushrooms contain antioxidants and bioactive compounds that can support liver function and aid in detoxification processes. Regular consumption of Reishi mushrooms may contribute to the health and well-being of this essential organ.

Heart Health

Maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system is crucial for overall well-being. Reishi have been associated with several heart-protective effects. They may help reduce high blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and improve blood circulation, all of which promote a healthy heart.
